This business of mine grew out of a hobby. As my business grew I knew I had to employ some help from tools to systematize and ease the load so that I could continue to experience growth. I use many tools but the ones I am going to talk about today are not just attached to my niche of Photography but could be utilized by any creative small business owner!
The first tool I need to talk about is Honeybook. This is home base of my business, my dashboard. It is a client management software, but it is also soooo much more. I schedule my sessions, my consults, and my meetings as well as collect payments and contract signatures through Honeybook. I also have automated workflows, so that the program REMINDS ME when I need to do something. It is basically like having a personal assistant that makes sure you don’t let any balls drop. GAME CHANGER!! They also have incredible customer service and a concierge that can help you take word docs and pdfs and upload them into your portal. There is a risk free trial that you can sign up for to see if it is for you.
2. InShot App
We all know video is the future. Every app supports video now and even google is starting to prioritize video search results. I used to record a video, upload it to iMovie, edit the video, export it, airdrop it to my phone, then upload to social media. Not anymore. Now I just record the video and edit it on my phone in the InShot App. Pretty much all of my Youtube videos are edited through InShot, it makes my life soooo much easier. Best part? It is free.
Not a big Photoshop fan? No biggie, Canva is here to save the day! Canva is basically your business's graphic designer. You can design ANYTHING from social media posts, to Youtube thumbnails, to logos, even t shirts. There are a lot of features that are free but they also have a Premium version if you are looking for even more bells and whistles.
4. Quickbooks Online
When I say the word “finances”, how does that make you feel? If your business finances are not being accounted for try out Quickbooks Online. Once you sync your bank account into it’s interface you can easily track purchases and divide them into categories. You can also log your mileage, run reports, and send out 1099s (subcontractor tax paperwork). Most bookkeepers and CPA’s are familiar and use Quickbooks Online as well and it comes highly recommended.
5. Preview App
First impressions are everything. What does a potential client see as soon as they click on your Instagram handle? Is it a curated, brand focused grid? If not, download the Preview App. There you can see what your grid would look like with different photos and you can rearrange until it looks exactly how you want it to. Plan your images with intention and make that first impression stick.
