Maddy and Brad met through a mutual friend that Maddy leased a horse from many years ago. They were so young and were just acquaintances for a long time. Maddy went to college at Auburn University in Alabama. At the very end of summer before her junior year Brad finally reached out to her. She jokes about how she was home ALL summer and he reached out as soon as she was back in AL. They kept in touch and Skyped often. They began dating long distance.
Maddy ended up moving back to NH to be closer to Brad. Months later, right before Thanksgiving, Maddy received a phone call that her late father’s mother wasn’t doing well. Then Maddy, her mother, and Brad rushed down to Maryland where her grandmother lived. This was during COVID quarantine so they had to jump through many hoops to get to visit her in the last days of her life. Maddy’s grandmother had been on Brad for a while, hounding him to propose. Every time Maddy would call her she would say “do you have important news to tell me?”, hoping that the proposal happened. So here at the end of her life, Maddy’s grandmother asked to have a conversation with Brad alone. She asked him if he would propose to her granddaughter right then and there. Brad, who was prepared for this exact request from her, got down on one knee and asked Maddy to marry him, right there in the nursing home. I honestly cannot think of a sweeter proposal story. Such an amazing story to tell for the rest of their lives.
