Memory Jar Slips: Passport Debacle

We have a tradition in my house…it is called the Memory Jar. Inside of the clear Bormioli jar are thin slips of white computer paper. Every time something happens in our family that we want to remember we write it down and throw it in the jar. Every New Year’s Eve, my husband and I sit down together after the kids have gone to bed and we take turns reading them out loud.

It is not very often that my husband and I get alone time, especially for 4 days in a row. We were SO excited to go on a Caribbean adventure to Jamaica together, alone, in January. Even the airplane ride feels like a retreat! We woke up before the crack of dawn wide eyed and bushy tailed, ready to have an amazing time together. We caught the bus to Boston Logan Airport and got on the plane to take the first leg of our trip.

We had a two hour layover in New Jersey. We were walking around the concourse, stretching our legs, when over the airport intercom my husband heard “Amanda from Boston, report to Gate 109 for your lost belonging”. When my husband told me what he heard, I thought he was joking. I wasn’t even aware I had lost anything! Could she be talking about me?! Good thing I didn’t know what I had lost because if I knew I would have been beside myself.

Guys…my lost belonging was MY PASSPORT! You know…the thing that is absolutely essential to enter a foreign country…and more importantly, return to the homeland! The airport attendant made absolutely certain that she let me know how big of a deal it was that I lost my passport on the airplane. I mean…really tore into me. Of course I knew how big of a deal it was to lose your passport. I don’t even know how it fell out of my bag! Anyways, the airport attendant’s shame fest aside, we made it safely to Jamaica and had a phenomenal time.

Never a dull moment when my husband and I travel together.
